Special report: 2008 Olympic Games

ANKARA, June 2 (Xinhua) -- A national sportswoman of Chinese origin will represent Turkey for the first time in table tennis category in the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Monday.

Melek Hu, a player from the Turkish Fenerbahce Sports Club, said on Monday that she was quite excited as she would represent Turkey at the Olympic Games to be held in her native country, China.

Hu said she had been dealing with sports in Turkey for 1.5 years and she became a member of the national team 10 months ago after she acquired Turkish nationality.

"I am a Turkish citizen now and I will be competing for Turkey. As the Olympic Games will be held in my own country, this will be an advantage for me as well," Hu said.

Melek Hu was born in China in 1989. She is the first sportswoman to represent Turkey in the table tennis at the Olympic Games.
