China earthquake death toll rises to 69,016 by mid-Sunday

    BEIJING, June 1 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from China's earthquake on May 12 rose to 69,016 as of noon Sunday, a report from the Information Office of the State Council said.

    In addition, 368,545 were injured and 18,830 others were still missing in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province and some neighboring areas.

    About 15.15 million affected people in the quake zones had been evacuated, according to the office.  Full story
