BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Hollywood actress Kirsten Dunst said in an interview with E! Online that she checked into rehab earlier this year as she was battling depression, not drugs or alcohol.

The actress, 26, who played the "Spider Man" movies, said she went to the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah after suffering from a bout of depression she wasn't able to get over for months.

The "Spider Man" co-star broke her silence as she was upset over rumors that her stay in rehab was due to her drinking.

"I was feeling really low," said Dunst, "I was struggling, and I had the opportunity to go somewhere and take care of myself. I was fortunate to have the resources to do it. My friends and family thought it was a good idea, too."

She said she's "feeling stronger" now, and decided to talk about her struggles because "depression is pretty serious and should not be gossiped about."

Cirque is famous for the rehab of other young stars, most recently Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendes, according to the U.S. media reports.

In March, a report in Star magazine said the actress is considering dropping out of show business once she checks out of the Cirque.
