KIEV, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine's incumbent Kiev Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky beat his rivals by a big lead and won re-election, according to final results released by the Kiev regional election committee on Wednesday.

Chernovetsky gained 37.7 percent of the total eligible votes, while his rivals Ukrainian First Vice Prime Minister Oleksander Turchinov garnered 19.1 percent of votes, famous heavyweight boxer Vitaly Klitschko got 17.9 percent of votes.

A total of 70 candidates took part in the snap mayoral election held last Sunday.

In March, the Ukrainian parliament voted for an early election for Kiev mayor after Chernovetsky came under harsh criticism for corruption.
