ANKARA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Two militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) were killed in a clash with Turkish security forces in eastern Turkey, local officials said Wednesday.

Turkish Gendarmerie teams spotted a group of PKK militants in a remote area near Caldiran province of Van late Tuesday, the officials were quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.

The Gendarmerie teams tracked down the PKK rebels and killed two of them, said the officials, adding that operations to capture remaining members of the group are underway.

The PKK, listed by the United States and Turkey as a terrorist group, took up arms against Turkey in 1984 with the aim of creating an ethnic homeland in the southeast. More than 30,000 people have been killed in the over-two-decade conflict.
