KATHMANDU, May 28 (Xinhua) -- On the eve of Nepal
becoming a republic, celebrations began from Tuesday evening in the capital, The
Kathmandu Post reported on Wednesday.
Nepal Bar Association (NBA), the umbrella forum of
lawyers in the country, organized festival of lights in its central office in
Kathmandu to mark the declaration of republic in the country.
Lawyers gathered at the office premises and lit
candles Tuesday evening.
"This marks the occasion when we are getting rid of
autocratic period and the beginning of democratic republic in the country,"
Bishwa Kant Mainali, NBA president, told the gathering of the lawyers.
"This occasion is the beginning of prosperity and
progress in the country," he said while congratulating the Nepali people.
Similarly, artistes also began celebration of
republic from Tuesday evening. They organized a cultural program in Khulamanch
at Ratna Park.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist
Leninist, the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), Tamsaling Nepal Rastriya Dal
and Nepal Sukumbasi Party jointly took out a torch rally on Tuesday evening to
pressure the government to immediately implement a federal democratic republic
by abolishing monarchy at the first CA meeting on Wednesday. ¡¡
