Special report: Tension escalates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, May 27 (Xinhua) -- An American soldier has died due to a non-combat related cause, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

    A soldier assigned to Multi-National Division - Baghdad died on Saturday, a military statement said without providing further details about the incident.

    The name of the deceased soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

    The latest death brings the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion to over 4,080, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
