YANGON, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar national soccer team will be camped next month to resume training for the forthcoming Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup in India in July after the suspension of it due to deadly cyclone Nargis early this month, according to the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) on Friday.
Myanmar initially planned to camp the national soccer team for the Challenge Cup this month but had to postpone it because of the deadly cyclone Nargis in the first week of this month, the MFF said, adding that it has been making arrangement to enable to resume training early in June.
Eight teams -- four directly qualified teams, Myanmar, host India, DPR Korea and Turkmenistan, and top four teams from four qualifying groups -- will vie for the AFC Challenge Cup scheduled on July 30-Aug. 10, it said.
Three teams from the qualifying groups, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, has already qualified for the tournament, the MFF said.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar national soccer team will also compete in two other tournaments this year, the Merdeka Cup in Malaysia in October and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Championship in Thailand and Indonesia in December, it added.
Deadly tropical cyclone Nargis, which occurred over the Bay of Bengal on May 2-3, hit five divisions and states, killing 77,738 people, and leaving 55,917 missing and 19,359 injured, according to updated death toll.
