LOS ANGELES, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in Los Angeles were investigating Thursday into a fire in a commercial building that killed one woman and injured two other people overnight.

The fire in the South Los Angeles building was reported at 9.21p.m. Wednesday night and extinguished in 26 minutes by 30 firefighters, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.

When firefighters arrived at the building, which also serves as a residence, they found that the flames had spread to nearby trees and were threatening other structures because of windy conditions, Myers said.

Firefighters discovered a 40 year-old man outside the structure who had second- and third-degree burns over 60 percent of his body, while another victim -- a woman in her 40s -- was found dead inside the burned building.

The man was taken to a hospital along with a third victim, a 17year-old girl who was suffering from smoke inhalation. No other structures were damaged by the flames.

According to the spokesman, the cause of the fire was under investigation and damages were being tallied.
