LIMA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori has
been diagnosed with a pre-cancerous leukoplakia lesion, and may need a surgery
to have it removed, Fujimori's oldest daughter Keiko Fujimori said Tuesday.
Keiko Fujimori said her father's doctors have confirmed he has
"leukoplakia," a pre-cancerous lesion that develops on the tongue or the inside
of the cheek.
She said it has been three weeks since Fujimori started feeling pain in the
same place where he had surgery ten years ago.
Keiko Fujimori, leader of the opposition Alliance for the Future (AF) and
member of the Peruvian Congress, said her father was taking medicine to reduce
the pain.
Nevertheless, the pain was not relieved and it was very probable that Fujimori
would undergo a surgery and check if it was benign or malignant, she
said.
The congresswoman had appealed to President Alan Garcia his father be
indicted under an ordinary regimen and not under the current conditions.
"My father will still be facing the trial, but within a just cause and his
medical condition should be respected. We are not asking for any favor, only
justice," she said.
The congresswoman also revealed that the president of the Supreme Court of Justice
(CSJ), Cesar San Martin, who is in charge of the open trial against
Fujimori for crimes against humankind, had requested a special medical team be
set up to check on his health conditions.
Fujimori, who has attended 60 hearings since last December, did not show
many signs of illness, except falling asleep on several occasions.
The ex-president is detained in the Special Operations Headquarters of
the National Police of Peru near downtown Lima, where his trials were
conducted.
