BEIJING, May 19 -- Actress-singer Sun Li, 26, began acting in the acclaimed TV drama "Jade Goddess of Mercy" in 2003. Now she has grown into one of the most popular actresses in China with her talent, elegance and a golden heart.

    Sun was deeply moved by the earthquake victims in Sichuan Province. Her eyes filled with tears when she talked about the disaster. She has just donated 100,000 yuan (14,304 U.S. dollars) to the stricken region and her boyfriend, Deng Chao, another talented young actor, has donated 512 cotton-padded garments.

    The couple's latest TV series "Sweet Love" began screening on the local Drama Channel on Thursday. The 26-episode romantic series by director Gao Xixi centers on a hard yet sweet love lasting over decades.

    "We sincerely hope people will attach more attention to the earthquake victims rather than our TV drama," Sun said during the show's press launch at Shanghai Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum.
