MADRID, May 18 (Xinhua) - Spanish power corporation Iberdrola will invest 8 billion U.S. dollars in renewable energy in the United Sates between 2008 and 2010, the company said in a statement Sunday.

Iberdrola, based in Bilbao, northern Spain, is the world's largest renewable energy operator, boasting a wind power production capacity of 2,400 megawatts by the end of March in the United States alone.

It expected to expand its production capacity to 3,600 megawatts by the end of the year and hold a 15 percent share in the wind power market in the United States by 2010.

The United States, which consumes about one quarter of the world's crude oil, is seen as a vigorously growing market for renewable energy sources.
