BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhuanet) -- A Chicago-based
company is voluntarily recalling an "undetermined amount of beef products"
distributed in 11 states due to potential E. coli contamination, media
reported Monday.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said Saturday no
illnesses have been reported with the voluntary recall from JSM Meat Holdings
Co.
The meat being recalled is used in ground beef
products, including 30-pound and 60-pound boxes and 47-gallon barrels of
"MORREALE MEAT" beef products.
There are 15 different labels including "Boneless
Chucks," "Boneless Clods," "Flat Rounds," "Gooseneck Rounds" and "Knuckle."
These beef products have the number "EST. 6872"
inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The products were distributed to establishments for
further processing in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
E. coli is a potentially deadly bacteria that can
cause bloody diarrhea, dehydration, and in the most severe cases, kidney
failure. The very young, seniors and persons with weak immune systems are the
most susceptible to foodborne illness.
