    DHAKA, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi President Iajuddin Ahmed and caretaker government Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Wednesday expressed deep shock at the loss of lives and property in a devastating earthquake in China.

    In his message, President Isajuddin Ahmed conveyed his deepest and sincere sympathy to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and the bereaved families of the earthquake victims.

    Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed, in his message, expressed his deepest condolences to Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and through him to the people affected by the earthquake.

    "I'm confident that the government and the people of China will overcome the aftermath of the tragedy with courage and fortitude," he said.

    An Earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale rocked China's southwestern province of Sichuan on Monday, leaving over 14,000 people dead.
