BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top political advisor Jia Qinglin's
visit to four European countries has strengthened traditional friendship and
paved the way for a bright future, a Chinese official said Wednesday.
Jia, who is chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's
Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), wrapped up his visit to Romania,
Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia Wednesday.
During the flight home, Wang Shenghong, who has accompanied Jia and is
deputy secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, said Jia's visit has
yielded positive results.
Wang said the visit was aimed at deepening China's traditional friendship
with the four countries, boosting practical cooperation, and pushing China's
ties with them to a new high.
During the visit, Jia respectively exchanged ideas with the four countries'
leaders on bilateral ties and issues of common concern, reaching extensive
consensuses, Wang added.
The visit has achieved five positive results, he said.
Firstly, it has strengthened China's traditional friendship with the
countries, and boosted political mutual trust.
Jia put forward the suggestions of maintaining high-level visits, deepening
trade and economic cooperation, promoting personnel and cultural exchanges, and
strengthening cooperation between the CPPCC and the four countries' parliaments.
He also said China would like to work with the four countries to make
bilateral friendly and cooperative ties develop comprehensively and deeply.
The four countries all said they cherish their traditional friendship with
China, regard China as a trustworthy and sincere cooperation partner, and are
willing to make joint efforts with China to deepen political mutual trust,
broaden practical cooperation, add new content and momentum to their traditional
friendly ties, and push bilateral ties to a new high.
Secondly, the visit has boosted trade and economic cooperation, and
promoted common development.
During his talks with the four countries' leaders, Jia brought forward a
variety of proposals to increase the size of China's trade and economic
cooperation with the four countries, and promote the level and quality of the
cooperation.
To positively exert the governments' macro-directing functions, to make
bilateral trade and economic cooperation develop comprehensively and in more
fields, to boost exchanges of enterprises and to increase mutual investment are
among the proposals.
During his visit, Jia also signed many cooperative treaties with the four
countries concerning the fields of steel, chemical products, wood and so on.
Thirdly, a stable, friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between
China and Europe is not only in line with the interests of both sides but is
also conducive to world peace, stability and development, Jia said.
He also hoped the countries in Central and Eastern Europe could continue
their efforts in promoting the all-round strategic partnership between China and
Europe.
Fourthly, Jia introduced China's achievements and developing experience
during the three decades of reform and opening-up, vowing that China will always
stick to the path of peaceful development as well as a strategy featuring
openness, mutual benefits and win-win results.
China has witnessed significant improvement in its economic development,
overall national strength and the people's living standards over the recent 30
years, he said.
He said the destinies of China and the world are closely correlated with
each other as China's development is indispensable to the world and the world's
stability and prosperity is indispensable to China.
He added that China will continue its efforts in promoting enduring peace
and common prosperity so as to build a harmonious world.
China, which has scored remarkable achievements in its social-economic
development over the three decades, has already become an important factor in
world's economic growth, said the leaders of the four European countries.
They said they appreciated China's positive role in international and
regional affairs, saying China is a steadfast force in maintaining world peace
and stability.
They also expressed willingness to strengthen communication and cooperation
between China and Europe so as to make joint efforts with the country in
promoting the world's peace and prosperity.
Finally, while introducing the top political advisory body in China and the
country's system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation, Jia said
the CPPCC has played a vital role in China's political life and its contacts
with other countries.
An important task of the CPPCC is to promote mutual understanding and
friendship between the Chinese people and the people around the world, he said.
The CPPCC, which has forged friendly association with 211 institutions in
121 countries around the world and 12 international or regional organizations,
highly values its communication and cooperation with the parliaments of the four
European countries, Jia said, adding it is ready to devote more efforts to
improving bilateral ties between China and European nations.
