BEIJING, May 13 -- Coming hot on the heels of Chongqing's Grand Theater and Guotai Arts Center, the city in southwestern China is adding to its cultural infrastructure with a circus town. Building on the town is scheduled to start later this year.
Chongqing's International Circus Town is expected to be finished in three years. The budget is 250 million yuan, or more than 35 million US dollars. Acrobatic artists from Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong gathered in Chongqing on Thursday to give their suggestions for the project. The circus town will have the capacity for an audience of three thousand.
Besides regular performances, it will be a venue for international circus and acrobatics competitions.
