Intensive gun shots heard in N Khartoum

    Khartoum, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Intensive gun shots were heard at central Omdurman in northern Khartoum on Monday noon, where a fierce fighting took place between army troops and rebels on Saturday.

    Xinhua correspondent from a nearby building saw that a Nile River bridge linking Omdurman and Khartoum was closed, and main roads in Omdurman was cleared out of any passengers by the troops and police.

    Witnesses said that a small group of rebels of about seven militants came out from Abu Anja district and clashed with governmental forces near the bridge.

    No official comment could be received at the moment.
