BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer said Austria adheres to the one China principle and admits both Taiwan and Tibet are part of the Chinese territory during his meeting with Chinese ambassador, said a Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Friday.
In a press release, spokesman Qin Gang said Austrian Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer met with Chinese ambassador to Austria Wu Ken on May 2.
During the meeting, Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer also said Austria attaches importance to developing relations with China. He said relations between Austria and China enjoy a fine tradition and huge potential, expressing the wish that bilateral relations could be further strengthened and deepened, said Qin.
"We appreciate these remarks of Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer," said Qin.
Qin said the Chinese Government attaches importance to developing friendly and cooperative relations with Austria and would like to work with the Austrian side to constantly push forward sound and steady development of relations between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits, fully understanding and caring for each other's major concerns and properly handling differences.
