Both as important countries in Asia as well as in the world, China
and Japan should make an objective judgment on each other and treat each other
as cooperative partner for a win-win result, rather than competitor of a
zero-sum game, Hu said.
Efforts should also be made to boost their mutually beneficial
cooperation, he said, adding that China and Japan should cherish the sound
pattern formed through many years of economic and trade cooperation and give a
better play of their mutually complementary economies with huge potentials for
cooperation.
The president elaborated on the importance of expanding cultural
exchanges, saying that personnel and cultural exchanges serve as bridges and
channels for boosting understandings and friendliness between the two peoples.
The president expounded on the need for more coordination and
cooperation between the two countries for a more prosperous Asia.
Coordination and cooperation between China and Japan are
indispensable for a more prosperous Asia, Hu said. China is willing to work with
Japan and other Asian nations to push forwardall kinds of regional and
sub-regional cooperation, improve common security, safeguard peace and stability
in Northeast Asia, promote the process of cooperation and integration in East
Asia and achieve the common development of China and Japan through efforts to
build a more prosperous Asia, he said.
President Hu also proposed to make joint efforts to deal with global
challenges.
Faced with mounting common challenges from terrorism, climate change,
problems in energy and food security, financial risks, as well as natural
disasters, major epidemics and the spread of weapons of mass destruction, the
world should join efforts to deal with the threats, Hu said.
China is willing to work with Japan to take an active part in all
kinds of international cooperation, enhance the capability to deal with
challenges, and push forward the great cause of peace and development of the
humanity, he added.
Hu said that standing on the new historic threshold, China-Japan
relations are facing new opportunities for further development.
The common interests and cooperative areas of the two countries are
expanding and their regional and international responsibility are also
increasing amid rapid globalization, said the president.
"We reached broad consensus on the deepening of the strategic and
mutually beneficial relations between China and Japan in an all-round way and
worked out a framework for the long-term stable and healthy development of the
bilateral ties" during talks with Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda on Wednesday, Hu
said.
Hu started a state visit to Japan on Tuesday, the first by a Chinese
head of state to the country in a decade.
