KABUL, May 7 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bombing Wednesday morning in Afghan eastern province of Khost killed a local senior police officer and his nephew, and wounded another, the police said.

Deputy administrator of the police department Daud Jan was driving towards his office when his car was struck by a bomb at a village some 10 km east of the provincial capital Khost city, the provincial police spokesman Wazir Badshah told Xinhua.

Jan and his nephew were killed in the blast which took place at7 a.m. local time, the police spokesman said, adding that another person, Jan's friend, also sustained injuries.

Badshah blamed Taliban insurgents for planting the mine, adding militants by committing such subversive activities intended to destabilize the security of the area.

Taliban-related violence and fighting have left more than 400 people, mostly civilians, dead since January this year.
