GRAZ, Austria, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Several European leaders agreed Wednesday to push for the integration of the European Union and the realization of the Lisbon Treaty.
Leaders from Austria, Germany, Finland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Poland and Portugal reached the consensus on the Lisbon Treaty at a two-day informal meeting in this central Austrian city.
"We have explained the Lisbon Treaty to European residents," German President Horst Koehler said, stressing that leaders should focus on the "substance" in view of Europe's role in a globalizing world.
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano said Europeans are more optimistic than two years ago, when the former treaty was rejected by France and the Netherlands, and the Italian government would push for the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.
