    JAKARTA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia and Timor-Leste will promote their cooperation in the fields of defense, trade and law enforcement, top officials of the two countries said here on Tuesday.

    Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Visiting Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao told a joint press conference that they would like to settle the problems with the spirit of friendship and to put a priority on the future relation of the two countries.

    "We discussed bilateral issues with the spirit of increasing relationships of the two countries," President Susilo said at the press conference, adding "we are waiting to see the final result of the Truth and Friendship Commission and agreed to put a priority on the future relation."

    Both sides have agreed to establish the commission in a bid to solve disputes between the two countries in the past.

    On defense sector, Susilo said that the two countries agreed to step up cooperation on borders, education and exchange visits of officials.

    The president also expressed support to the extension of the mission of the United Nations Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste and the effort to maintain stability in the country.

    On his turn, Gusmao said "the government of Timor-Leste also like to express our appreciation to the success for the Truth and Friendship Commission and we hope that two states come together."

    He said that the people of Timor-Leste needed a cooperation with Indonesia in the process of development and reform in their country.
