STOCKHOLM, April 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 1,200 ethnic Chinese residing or studying in Denmark took to street on Monday afternoon to voice their support for the forthcoming Beijing Olympics, according to reports reaching here from Copenhagen.
At first, the Overseas Chinese gathered in the City Hall Square. There some representatives delivered speeches, voicing their firm support for Beijing Olympics and condemning attempts to sabotage the Olympic torch relay. Many of them also signed their names on banners to demonstrate the will to support the Beijing Olympics.
After the rally, the supporters marched through the downtown areas to the square of Denmark's parliament. They waved China's national flags, held banners on supporting the Beijing Olympics and chanted such slogans as "Supporting the 2008 Olympics," "Beijing welcomes you" and "China welcomes you."
The event was initiated by more than 10 associations of ethnic Chinese residing or studying in Denmark and won the support all over the country. So among the demonstrators many came from Aarhus and Odense, the Danish second and third largest cities, Lin Yanbiao, one of the main organizers, told Xinhua from Copenhagen after the rally.
"The rally is very successful because we expressed our deep feeling to Motherland on one hand and showed the Danish people our firm support for Beijing Olympics on the other hand," he added.
