WASHINGTON, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The United States remains verifying actions by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in terms of its nuclear activities, the State Department said on Friday.
"We are not yet to the trust part, we are still working on the verify part," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told a news briefing.
"Trust is something that is built up over time and is based on performance and adherence to obligations and, we would see, we would see," McCormack said.
"It is up to the North Koreans to perform and we will see whether or not they perform on their obligations" in providing the long awaited declaration of its nuclear program and completing disabling their key Yongbyon nuclear facility.
"If they are judged as having done so, the other parties will meet their obligations. The process will move forward," McCormack said.
The spokesman made the remarks a day after the United States accused Pyongyang of having helped Syria build an atomic reactor.
"We are convinced, based on a variety of information, that North Korea assisted Syria's covert nuclear activities," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said in a statement.
"We have good reason to believe that reactor, which was damaged beyond repair on Sept. 6 of last year, was not intended for peaceful purposes," she said.
Both the DPRK and Syria have denied the U.S. charges.
