JAKARTA, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has raised the targets for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Aceh province in the northern tip of Sumatra Island, the country's Minister of Development Planning Paskah Suzetta said Monday.

After meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and the head of the reconstruction agency (BRR) Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, the minister told a press conference that Indonesia had sufficient funds to finance new works.

Of the 7.2 billion U.S. dollars donation commitment, 90 percent has been given, Mangkusubroto said.

Besides, Indonesian government has provided some 23 trillion rupiah (some 2.53 billion U.S. dollars), he said.

The changes of the reconstruction plan covered housing, infrastructure, and public services facilities, said Suzetta.

The number of houses to be built were revised up from the initial target of 90,000 units to 161,000 units and roads from 2,191 km to 3,000 km, Mangkusubroto said.

The houses would be completed this year, but he could not confirm whether the roads could be finished this year.

Mangkusubroto said that the agency had already rehabilitated over 90,000 hectares of rice fields while the initial target was only 60,000 hectares.

"The government is considering the ways of shifting the works from the agency to the local government, the state-owned enterprises, or ministries," said Mangkusubroto.

Aceh has been under a four-year reconstruction and rehabilitation program since the coastal areas of the province were devastated by tsunami-triggered by strong quakes that killed over 170,000 people in December 2004.

The tsunami also led to a massive displacement of over a half-million people in Aceh.
