BEIJING, April 17 -- Johnny Depp hated his teen idol status so much during the 1980s that he shaved off his hair including his eyebrows to stop from posing with his top off for girls' magazines.

The "Pirates Of the Caribbean" star first touched fame when he appeared in U.S. teen show "21 Jump Street" and became a female rage instantly.

However, the "shy" actor so despised the attention he got from females and the fame that followed, that he shaved off his hair and eyebrows just to distract attention.

"I just didn't want to make a career of taking my shirt off. I wanted to shave off all my hair, even my eyebrows. And I did!" Contactmusic quoted him, as telling to Britain's OK! magazine.

He added: "I don't fault TV stars who do teen magazines. They took offers that gave the big money fast, but they were dead in two years. I never wanted that. Frankly, I've always been shy, paranoid, whatever word you want. I hate fame - I've done everything to avoid it."
