CANBERRA, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Australia must address the problem of homelessness as part of a broader fight to prevent the emergence of "two Australias", Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said on Wednesday.

"Homelessness is a priority for the nation," Rudd said in Sydney at the launch of a homelessness fundraising venture run by the Wesley Mission.

"It can happen to anybody and tragically it's happening to everybody - that is, people from all walks of life... I'm deeply concerned about the emergence of two Australias," the prime minister said.

"I think we can be better as a nation by saying we don't want two Australias," Australian Associated Press quoted him as saying.

Rudd also mentioned that there were more than 100,000 Australians with "no place to call home".

Wesley Mission's Touch Life program aims to raise money from the corporate sector through a touch football competition in the NSW Hunter Valley over the ANZAC Day long weekend.
