TOKYO, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Victor Co. of Japan Ltd. (JVC) has decided to end domestic production and sales of flat-panel televisions sometime this summer and concentrate on the European and U.S. markets, media reported Wednesday.
As Japan's sixth-largest maker of flat-panel televisions, the company made the decision amid sharp decreases in retail prices of such TVs in Japan and healthy sales in the overseas market.
In FY 2007, JVC sustained a pretax loss of 8 billion yen (80 million U.S. dollars) with 300,000 out of a total of 1 million LCDTVs sold domestically.
As part of the efforts to withdraw from domestic market, JVC is expected to terminate its TV production line in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.
