JAKARTA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian police will dispatch 1,557 personnel to oversee the Olympic torch relay when it passes through the capital Jakarta from April 22 to 23, Jakarta police spokesman Anton Bachrul Alam said here Wednesday.
The spokesman said the torch would cross Jakarta via the Halim Perdanakusumah airport, Semanggi, Asia Afrika street and Bung Karno stadium.
"The central Jakarta district police chief is to lead the safeguarding of the torch," Bachrul Alam said at the police headquarters here.
Despite some protests in some European countries, there was no report of any plan of protest against the torch relay in Indonesia, he said.
China is to host the 29th Olympic Games from August 8 to 24 this year. Indonesia is to send an athletics team to take part in the international sports event.
