WASHINGTON, April 2 (Xinhua) -- The United States said Wednesday Zimbabwe should announce all the election results, adding that the people in the country have voted for a change.

"What needs to happen is for all of the election results to come out. Based on what we know now and what we have seen from the election commission, there is clearly a moment of change here in Zimbabwe because you do have the opposition gaining many more seats than they previously had in their house," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.

"In order for us to really understand how this process is going to unfold going forward, we need to have the electoral commission come forward with those results, because it is critically important for Zimbabwe, for Zimbabwe's institutions, for the international community that this election and the results of this election reflect the will of the people," McCormack said.

According to media reports, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has released more election results with indications that the ruling Zanu-PF and the opposition MDC Tsvangirai faction are heading for a tie in the House of Assembly poll.

Moreover, the pattern of results in the presidential election show that none of the candidates will garner more than 50 percent of the vote, forcing a run-off.

The incumbent 84-year-old President Robert Mugabe, who has been in power since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, is seeking a sixth term in the presidential election.
