Special report: Dalai clique's separatist activities condemned

BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Foreign Ministry on Tuesday urged the Dalai Lama to stop all separatist and sabotage activities if he really wants to contact and consult with the central government.

Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu made the remarks at a regular press conference on Tuesday afternoon when asked to comment on a letter of appeal released by the Dalai Lama on March 28 to Chinese nationals around the globe.

She said the Dalai Lama on the one hand repeatedly claimed he wanted to consult with the central government. On the other hand, he stirred up social turmoil that disturbed the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games and seriously destroyed the basis for contact and consultation.

Jiang stressed if the Dalai Lama really wanted to contact and consult with the central government and become "a member of the big family" of the homeland, he should immediately stop all violent activities that foment assaults, vandalism, looting and arson, stop all activities that disturb and sabotage the Beijing Olympic Games, and stop all activities that attempt to separate Tibet from China.

Jiang said over the past 50 years, the Dalai clique had always distorted history, instigated conflict and contradictions among Chinese people of different nationalities, destroyed social stability in China and sought "Tibet independence".

She noted the Dalai clique instigated and plotted the recent violence in the Tibetan regions that severely endangered the lives, property and security of local residents, aroused great indignation of the whole Chinese nation and was widely condemned by the international community.

The real violence, once again, exposed the deceptive "non-violence" of the Dalai Lama to the world people, Jiang added.

She said there was ironclad evidence and it would be in vain for the Dalai Lama to try to wash himself of involvement in the violent assaults, vandalism, looting and arson through a release of "a letter of appeal" that is full of lies. ¡¡

Commentary: Dalai Lama clique's deeds never square with its words

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Buddhist precepts tell followers to be good to their word and never lie. The Buddhist Dalai Lama clique, however, seem to have never quite followed these teachings.

On March 14, violence of riotous beating, looting and arson erupted in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China. The following day, the Dalai Lama said in Dharamshala that "these protests are a manifestation of the deep-rooted resentment of the Tibetan people under the present governance." Full story

Commentary: Dalai Lama a politician, not a simple monk

BEIJING, March. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Dalai Lama always describes himself as "a simple monk", but what he has done in the past few decades indicates that he is also a politician who goes around the world doing things that don't square with his words.

It's hard to imagine that a simple monk could be so busy on the world stage. Currently on his agenda are trips to Seattle in the United States, London and Nantes, France. On his travels, he's expected to meet high-ranking officials including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Full story

Facts exposing Dalai clique's masterminding of Lhasa violence

BEIJING, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Xinhua was authorized to release a signed article on Sunday to reveal how the Dalai clique plotted and incited the Lhasa violence on March 14, which killed at least 18 civilians and one police officer.

The story, by Yi Duo, says that it was untrue of the Dalai Lama and his backers to claim that the riot was a "spontaneous peaceful protest" that the Dalai Lama had nothing to do with. Full story
