VIENTIANE, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam and Laos Sunday agreed to foster their multi-faceted cooperation, especially in the fields of trade and investment.

    Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, during his visit to the Laos, met with Secretary General of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and Lao President Choummaly Saygnasone, and Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh.

    Dung is here to attend the 3rd Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Summit in Vientiane from March 30-31.

    The two countries agreed to accelerate their investment cooperation projects, especially in the fields of hydroelectricity, mining, cash crop cultivation, and transport.

    The two countries will strive to increase their trade to 1 billion U.S. dollars in 2010, 2 billion dollars in 2015, and 5 billion dollars in 2020.

    During the meetings, the two sides have also discussed some issues relating to the summit. Dung has expressed his believe that the summit will be a success, demonstrating increasing Laos' prestige and position in the international arena.

    The summit with the theme of "Enhancement of Competitiveness via Greater Connectivity" will focus on strengthening transport connectivity, boosting cooperation between public and private sectors, implementing sustainable environment management and enhancing cooperation for GMS developments. GMS members include Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar and China.
