KUALA LUMPUR, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian government Saturday strongly condemned the online airing of a film entitled "Fitna" (Discord in Arabic) by Dutch Parliamentarian Geert Wilders, saying it was an irresponsible act.
"Portraying Islam as a religion advocating extremism and violence is not only misleading and erroneous but also a blatant disregard and utter disrespect for Islam and the sensitiveness of the Muslim world," the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said in a statement available here.
"He (Geert Wilders) must bear full responsibility over the release of the movie and the consequences of his action," the ministry said.
Malaysia also implored upon the Dutch government to take appropriate measures immediately against this irresponsible act and work towards repairing the damage that he has done, according to the ministry.
"While freedom can be respected, it also carries with it a certain responsibility, " it noted.
