Special report:   2008 Olympic Games

LIMA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Peruvian President Alan Garcia said Thursday that he supports the Beijing Olympic Games and believes China will overcome its difficulties to hold a successful event.

In an article for the local daily El Comercio, Garcia said hosting the Olympics is a great opportunity for China to showcase its tremendous achievements since the country's adoption of reform and opening up.

However, international anti-China forces are using the Tibet and Taiwan issues to boycott the Olympics in a bid to disturb China's development, he noted.

Garcia also said in a radio interview that he backs China's efforts to safeguard its national unity.

China has set an example of peaceful development for Peru, which has a lot to learn from the Asian giant's development models, added the president.
