Special report: Dalai's separatist activities condemned
BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- More overseas Chinese
groups in South Korea, the United States, Mexico and Egypt as well as
Chinese-language newspapers have condemned the riots in Lhasa, the capital city
of China's Tibet autonomous region.
Fifteen overseas Chinese associations, including the
council for the promotion of peaceful national reunification in South Korea,
stated Thursday that Tibet is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. The
recent violent acts of beatings, smashing, looting and arson were organized,
premeditated and masterminded by the Dalai Lama clique, they said.
The Dalai Lama clique's plot to destroy stability and
harmony in Tibet is unpopular and doomed to fail, the statements said.
Steven Wong, acting chairman of the United Federation
of Chinese Association, said Monday that brutal actions by the separatists
seeking "Tibet independence" sabotage the stability in the autonomous region and
arouse indignation among all Chinese people including the overseas Chinese.
Foreign anti-China forces' attempt to interfere in
the internal affairs of China with a pretext of "democracy, freedom and human
rights" will end up in failure, like "lifting a rock only to drop it on their
own toes," Wong said.
Zhu Huihu, head of the Chinese guild hall in Mexico,
said Tuesday that if nobody deliberately foments trouble, there would be no
riots in Tibet. The Chinese central government has devoted many material and
financial resources to economic construction in Tibet, attached importance to
local culture and drawn up other policies in favor of Tibet.
China is making efforts to hold a successful Olympics
in Beijing, however, the Dalai Lama clique does not want the Olympics to be held
in a tranquil atmosphere, Zhu added.
Liu Kewei, secretary general of the general council
of the overseas Chinese association in northwestern Mexico, said Wednesday that
the riots in Lhasa posed a serious threat to safety and property of innocent
common people. If the Chinese government sit idle and do nothing about the
riots, social order will not be safeguarded.
Mary Lai, president of Cairo Chinese-Speaking Women's
Association, believes that the Lhasa riots were premeditated by certain people
with ulterior motives.
She supports the position of the Chinese government
on the Tibet issue and opposes making use of the issue to boycott the Beijing
Olympic Games.
New Zealand's Chinese-language weekly Home Voice
pointed out that the Lhasa riots were masterminded and incited the Dalai clique.
The attempt to separate Tibet from China can never
get the nod from the Chinese government and people and is doomed to fail, the
weekly said in an editorial.
The criminal acts plotted by the Dalai Clique were
aimed at attaining the "dirty" political purpose of boycotting the Beijing
Olympic Games, and should be resolutely condemned, the Chinese-language World
News newspaper of the Philippines said in a commentary on Wednesday.
