Located on the northeastern tip of Africa, Morocco covers an area of 459,000 square km and has a population of 29.89 million, mostly Arabs. Islam is the national religion. Arabic is the official language and French is widely used. Rabat is the national capital. Mohammed VI is the King.


Sino-Morocco relations have been developing smoothly since two countries established the diplomatic relations on November 1, 1958. The two sides have carried out fruitful cooperation in international affairs. The king of Morocco, Mohammed VI, visited China in 2002 and Chinese President Hu Jintao paid a state visit to Morocco in April, 2006. Morocco becomes a destination country for Chinese tourists. Bilateral trade has been rising rapidly in recent years, with the trade volume reaching 1.484 billion U.S. dollars in 2005.
