Bulgaria voices concerns with developments in northern Kosovo

    SOFIA, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria is concerned with the developments in the northern part of Kosovo and urged the local Serb leaders to use their influence and avoid further growing of tension, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry declared Monday in a statement.

    The Foreign Ministry said that the methods and means including explosives, firearms and instigation to extremist actions used by the participants in the unrest can in no way benefit the Serb population in Kosovo.

    The statement urged for making every effort to keep peace and security in Kosovo in compliance with the commitment of Belgrade and Pristina to restrain from actions and statements which could jeopardize the stability in Kosovo and the region.

    Bulgaria also voiced its conviction that the police forces of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK)and the Kosovo Force (KFOR) will restore and keep the security everywhere in Kosovo in line with the mandate given to them by Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.
