Tibet regional chairman: Any secessionist attempt in Tibet doomed to fail

    BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Any secessionist attempt to sabotage Tibet's stability will not gain people's support and will be doomed to fail, said Qiangba Puncog, Tibet Autonomous Regional Government chairman, at a news briefing in Beijing on Monday on the riotous activities that occurred in Lhasa on March 14.

Foreigners suspended from entering Tibet for safety concerns

    LHASA, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Following Friday's turmoil in Lhasa, the regional government of Tibet has suspended handling the application of foreigners to travel to Tibet for safety concerns, said a local official.

Armed police rescue 580 people from Lhasa riot

    LHASA, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Armed police in Lhasa have rescued more than 580 people, including three Japanese tourists, from banks, supermarkets, schools and hospitals that were set alight by violent saboteurs, sources with the Tibet Autonomous Region government said on Saturday.

    More than 160 blazing spots, including forty major fires, were reported after an outbreak of violent activities that wracked the capital city of Tibet Friday. Full story
