Polio vaccination program being administered in Nepal

    KATHMANDU, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Polio drops are being administered to children under five years of age in 20 different districts of the Indo-Nepal border region in southern Nepal on Saturday and Sunday.

    According to a leading website, eKantipur.com Saturday's report, the polio drops are being administered under the first phase of a special polio administration program after traces of polio were found in the Indian states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh that share border with Nepal.

    Dr Shyam Raj Uprety, Chief of Vaccination Branch at the Child Health Office, said that the program aims to vaccinate about 2.4 million children with polio drops in the country.

    The second phase of the program will be held on April 27-28.

    About 4.5 million children from 68 different district of the hilly and Terai region had been administered polio drops last month under the National Polio Vaccination Program, the report said. ¡¡
