YANGON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Chairman of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council Senior-General Than Shwe met with visiting Thai new Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej in Nay Pyi Taw Friday, according to diplomatic sources.
The meeting took place shortly after Samak arrived the new capital Friday morning on a one-day goodwill visit to Myanmar as part of his introductory tours to member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
No details are so far disclosed by both sides.
Samak will also meet his Myanmar counterpart General Thein Sein Friday afternoon as a follow-up and the two leaders will have talks on investment and economic cooperation, the sources said, adding that Samak will proceed to Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar, on the same day and wind up his trip.
Aimed at enhancing the bilateral ties and cooperation with the Southeast Asian neighbor, Samak's Myanmar visit is the first as prime minister after he led the People Power Party to win last December election and took office in early February.
