BEIJING, March 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Imagine this, you sit on couch, pick the remote and turn on the TV to watch YouTube videos. It will come true later this year as TiVo makes a deal with YouTube.
On Wednesday TiVo Inc. announced that it would
deliver videos from Google Inc's popular Web site YouTube directly to television
screens via its digital video recorders later this year.
¡°TiVo¡¯s strategy is to bridge the gap between Web
video and television and make as much content available as possible for our
subscribers,¡± said Tara Maitra, the vice president and general manager for
content services at TiVo.
The service would be available for high-speed
Internet subscribers who have TiVo Series 3 DVRs and users would be able to log
onto their YouTube accounts directly from their TiVo boxes, according to TiVo
Inc.
Though many companies are trying to merge the online
viewing experience with the living-room big screen, no one dominates the market
yet. Apple introduced a new version of Apple TV with similar features in
January. Now TiVo becomes the latest contender.
