    BEIJING, March 12 -- China's Foreign Ministry says the Dalai Lama is continuing to distort facts and that his attempts to link Tibetan issues with the Beijing Olympics are unwise and will never succeed.

    China's Foreign Ministry says the Dalai Lama is continuing to distort facts and that his attempts to link Tibetan issues with the Beijing Olympics are unwise and will never succeed.

    Qin Gang says the Chinese government has helped the Tibet Autonomous Region to develop rapidly and that the region's economic and social achievements are obvious. He says the peace and harmony enjoyed by people of different religions and ethnicities there is also obvious. Qin Gang urged the Dalai Lama to drop his secessionist activities and be more constructive instead.

    Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said, "I hope the Dalai Lama can face history, fully grasp reality, and do something positive for the Tibetans in his remaining years."
