SANTIAGO, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Chile will build the world's first Antarctic museum in the southern city of Punta Arenas, local media reported Monday.

At the museum, people would be able to know more about the Antarctic and how it affects the world, Jose Retamales, director of the Chilean National Antarctic Institute, was quoted as saying recently.

The Antarctic Museum will stand in the center of the city, facing the Strait of Magellan. It will cost 20 million U.S. dollars and is expected to open to the public in three years.
