BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A brawl that broke
out between soccer fans during a game held in the Colombian city of Cali wounded
at least 80 people, with 10 seriously, according to media reports
Monday.
The clash between the supporters of Deportivo Cali
and America de Cali erupted Saturday at the 82nd minute of the match, which was
sparked by the referee Wilman Roldan's decision to not call a penalty kick
against Deportivo Cali.
Players traded blows and the two coaches got into it,
elbowing and punching each other.
The violence spread quickly on the field and around
the Pascual Guerrero stadium.
Fans set off firecrackers and tried to tear down the
fencing. Riot police fired tear gas to try to control the crowds.
Emergency officials said 18 of those hurt in the
brawl were stabbed.
The chaos led Roldan to whistle an early end to the
match, which Deportivo won 1-0.
