Men's 3,000m gold goes to Bekele at indoor worlds

    VALENCIA, Spain, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Tariku Bekele won the title in the men's 3,000-meter race on Sunday at the 12th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics in Valencia, Spain.

    Bekele, champion of the World Junior Championships in the men's 5, 000-meter race, touched the finish line first in 7:48.23.

    His brother Kenenisa Bekele retained his 10,000 meters title at the world athletics championships in Osaka last year.

    Paul Kipsiele Koech from Kenya seized the silver medal in 7:49.05, while another Ethiopian Abreham Cherkos ran 7:49.96 seconds to get the bronze.
