PYONGYANG, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The government of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Saturday condemned Taiwan authorities' attempt to hold a "referendum" on UN membership, and firmly opposed Taiwan joining the United Nations in any form, the official news agency KCNA reported.

The "referendum" is a severe act that would deteriorate the cross-straits and East Asian situations, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted a spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry as saying.

The DPRK supports China's reunification course that is based on the one-China and "one country, two systems" policies, the spokesman said.
