KATHMANDU, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Nepal's political parties, including Madhes-based parties, filed the closed-list of candidates for the proportional election representation (PR) system in the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Sunday.

Following the agreement between the government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), the Election Commission (EC) had extended the deadline for one day for the parties who did not submit their closed-list for the PR system on the earlier deadline of Feb. 20, reported the local media house's website eKantipur.

The agitating Madhesi parties, including Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) and Terai-Madhes Democratic Party (TMDP), submitted their closed list.

Likewise, Nepal Sadbhavana Party-Anandadevi (NSP) Chairman Ananda Devi Singh and Saamyawaadi Party have submitted their closed-lists for 40 seats.

The MPRF, NSP and TMDP are the constituents of United Madhesi Democratic Front (UDMF), which had spearheaded the recent Madhes agitation.

Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) led by former Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa also submitted candidates' name-list for PR system for 299 seats. The RJP had earlier announced to boycott the CA elections if the Terai problems were not solved.

Likewise, Nawa Janawaadi Morcha filed closed-list for 42 seats and Nepal Rastriya Janabhavana Party for 34 seats, while the National Development Party for 51 seats and Nationalist Youth Front for 47 candidates.

Earlier Sunday morning, the UDMF constituents informed that they would prepare the closed-list, including names of nearly 100 candidates, not exceeding 30 percent in the 601-seats CA through PR system.

The constitution provides that parties exceeding 30 percent candidates to contest the CA polls under PR system do not have to reserve seats for Dalit, indigenous and other marginalized groups.

On the earlier deadlines, 39 parties filed closed-list under PR system for the CA polls and 33 parties under FPTP system on the deadlines fixed earlier by the EC.
