CAIRO, March 2 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian soccer club Al-Ahly will open an investigation into its goalkeeper Essam al-Hadari on his disputed transfer to the Swiss FC Sion club, local sports website Filgoal.com reported on Sunday.

Al-Hadari, who has already signed a three-year deal with FC Sion without approval of Al-Ahly with which he still has a contract until 2010, is likely to be imposed a heavy sanction, said the report.

After returning from Switzerland on Friday, the 35-year-old Egyptian goalie has expressed his regrets and promised to accept any decision made by Al-Ahly on his controversial move to the FC Sion club.

"I return to Al-Ahly because I realized that I shouldn't have done that," said Al-Hadari on Saturday in an Egyptian TV program, adding "I feel sorry and I'm ready to accept any decision by the club (Al-Ahly)."

Al-Hadari's move to the Swiss FC Sion club has brought widespread criticism and dispute in Egypt.

On Friday, al-Hadari returned home from Switzerland after failing to transfer to the Swiss club.

According to earlier report, the world soccer governing body FIFA has been asked to rule on the case of Al-Hadari's transfer.

Al-Hadari, dubbed by the Egyptian fans as the "High Dam", was awarded the best goalkeeper of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (ACN) in February when Egypt successfully defended its ACN title.
