JAKARTA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Friday met with U.N. special envoy for Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari, who is on an Asian tour seeking support to end the crisis in Myanmar.

During the meeting, the president reaffirmed a support on the Myanmar government's plan to hold a referendum in May and a general election in 2010, Indonesian state spokesman Dino Patti Djalal said here.

"The president stressed that the process must be transparent and inclusive," he told a joint press conference after the meeting at the State Palace.

The president also stressed the improvement of the Myanmar economy, security and unity during the process of handling the crisis in the country, said Dino.

The spokesman said that the president, who has frequently communicated with the Junta in Myanmar, wanted to continue such communication to help end the crisis.

"He (the president) tends to maintain personal communication with senior general Than Sway as we know there has been a quite of few correspondence between the president and senior general Than Shwe and this is something the president intends to maintain in the future," he said.

For his part, U.N. Envoy Gambari said that one of the issues he would discuss with the Junta-government in Myanmar was the participation of opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in the next election in 2010.

The Myanmar government would not allow Suu Kyi to contest. Suu Kyi's party won general elections in 1990.
