JAKARTA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia fully supports Myanmar's plan to hold general elections in 2010 and pins hope the democratic process will run transparently and peacefully, a spokesman said Friday.

Indonesia also supports the planned referendum in May to get public approval of the constitution draft in the fellow member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), said Dino Patti Djalal, a spokesman for President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

To ensure a more credible democratic process, Myanmar needs to hold elections which are transparent under the auspices of the United Nations, Dino said shortly after accompanying the president in a meeting with U.N. envoy to Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari at the State Palace here.

"In this regard, it's important for Gambari to play a bigger role in working together with the Myanmar government," he said.
